The Bigger Picture

Nobody warns you that you will feel so far away from everyday, ‘regular’ life that it will feel like it doesn’t even exist… and they certainly don’t tell you that this feeling can kick in as early as from the minute you step off the plane.

Travelling – something that literally changed my life.

When I came across this travel post on an interesting blog posted by a guy under the name of ‘allmyfriendsarejpegs’, I stopped and repeatedly read his punchy words about unexpected experiences you may go through when venturing out in the big wide world. Unsurprisingly, I instantly felt this connection with this blogger, as if he had been through the exact same thing as me.

To describe my travels in one, it can be summed up by the word freedom. A term which is quite open in its meaning, yet gives you such a bigger outlook on life in general, and can be related to easily.

Being a solo traveller was more of an obstacle, or so it felt at the time. Looking back now, I wouldn’t have done it in any other way. This guy appears to have felt the same sentiments – as he writes about how regular life of what we get up to on a daily basis – it feels so ‘unknown’, like it doesn’t even exist, but in the back of our minds we know that it does.

Another thing that I can note is the lack of responsibilities you feel when you’ve got your rucksack on your back, immersing yourself in different cultures, meeting new people and gaining an insight to how other people around the globe live their life. You feel that you can be yourself and that nothing else truly matters; except for planning another spontaneous day ahead, speculating about what is yet to come.

Nobody warns you that you’ll grow so fond of people after even the shortest period of time, that you’ll feel physical pain when you have to say goodbye.

This is poignantly true also, in the fact that you click with random people almost instantly, converse, and before you know it – it feels as though you have known one another for years. You build bridges, you learn an awful lot, and most importantly: you come out of your comfort zone.

I think everyone should travel. You learn so much about yourself, things that you would never of recognised if you hadn’t explored and become a stronger person.

You never know just how strong you are until being strong is your only option!

Facing your fears is p r i c e l e s s l y satisfying.
