Passion is the main driving force

This guy that I know has such a huge aura of passion I can feel his energy from a mile off. I admire that about him, he speaks with such dignity, confidence and belief, that every word that comes out of his mouth I cannot help but to feel inspired. And that’s what I think is missing in a lot of our society.

To be a good public speaker, speaking with passion can make the world of a difference. Connect with the crowd, they’re not strangers, they are human beings just like you and me waiting for that connection to bring them closer to you even if they are miles apart.

‘It’s all about the little things’ is a common, over-used phrase but it definitely defines so much about life. You can make such a huge impact to somebody else’s day just by blessing them with “have a lovely day”. Or you could hold open a door for a stranger, help them with a bag or lend a person a pen if you seen them searching through their bag for one.

If you carry passion with you on every step you take throughout your life it will be very hard to go wrong. Passion is a positive emotion and will only attract more positive situations and people into your life. So keep the passion high, know your goals and have your reason of ‘why’ you’re doing something right at the forefront of your mind if you ever get close to doubt.

Don’t let your mind play games

“Listen to your heart and not your head.”

This quote that I have picked up ‘Along the Way’ means an awful lot to me. In fact I feel its relevance in almost every aspect of life. We all get the feeling of intuition but we can ignore it at regular intervals because we let our head take over. Have you ever had the feeling when you are driving along and something inside tells you to take a certain turning or to not go somewhere and you realise that it happened for a reason afterwards? In a film I watched called The Secret I saw this guy who said that 90% of the time he can think about a parking spot in a particular place where he would like to park, and just by focusing on it happening and believing with every part of him – it happens.

It can be very easy to get caught up in other people’s habits and rituals – the bad ones I mean – that they influence you to be or act in a certain way too. Deep down we all know what is right and wrong for us, so we should be headstrong and follow our hearts – do what we think is BEST for us rather than what feels good at the time.

It’s like when a lot of Britain’s living in the UK watch the news – the news is so injected with false and negative emotions it instantly arouses like-minded signals in the viewers. Next thing we know is we are doubting the world, we are doubting the reporters viewpoints and we feel dubious about all of the messages we get from it. Yet the media provides a window to the world that otherwise wouldn’t exist, so we have to be extremely grateful for it.

That is why we need to ‘absorb what’s useful, reject what’s useless and add what’s specifically your own’ – Bruce Lee.

We are all different

It’s interesting when people depict qualities about others that juxtapose to their own. Something important that an elder person advised me one day is that we are all unique and special in our own right so we should just let everyone be who they wish to be.

Trying to change someone only brings yourself down and stunts that other person from being their real self. In the end they will never change so it’s better to just accept or reject and move from there.

It makes life interesting. We all see things differently and have different tastes so it gives life more variety. If everyone was like yourself think how bored you could get. By being around diverse people who may learn something completely new, discover bigger things and broaden your horizon in life.

That is why I love to study the media and journalism as an avenue. I find it fascinating to learn about other people and how they choose to live their lives, and how all of this stands in contrast to me and my associations. It makes me think outside the box and how there is so much more to what I know right this second… It makes life very very exciting!

So enjoy every moment of it, and like Will Smith says: Life isn’t about the amount of breaths you take. It’s about the moments that take your breath away.

Why wait? Do it today! There is no better moment than the present

There is nothing worse than when you have an inner buzz inside of you that craves to achieve something huge. You have the ideas, you have the right circle of people around you but all you lack is time. Time. Time. Time.

Time – what a frustrating commodity in life, but without it there would be no sense of structure. We need time like we need oxygen. It helps in keeping things moving along, just like the days of the year helps us track our lives. However there is one thing that human nature is continuously guilty of committing, and that is procrastination.

I’ll do it tomorrow, or maybe next week when I have done some new research.

Same excuses time and time again, and we are all more than likely guilty of it. Of course, we are not robots, so we cannot always get the things done we would like to we have to be patient and persist with time.

But we can add more fuel to our fire, because time does cost money and there is no better moment to do something than right now. Why wait? If you want something you have to get up and go and get it, because no one else will make it happen for you!

Put your actions where you thoughts are, and achieve amazing things. It’s just an overwhelming feeling too wen you look back and realise how easy it was just to change the mindset and take that extra step, that extra mile even to get to where you really want to be.

Visual Awareness – Persistence and Patience as two key skills

What we can see in our minds we can create, but it all starts from one place – believing. Many of us give up when we’re almost there through doubt and a lack of self-belief. We endure so much, all the hardships and struggles and then we can all of a sudden shut off and become impatient. It is easily done and it can be mentally challenging to accept failure but you can turn anything around in an instant.

It’s amazing what the power of positivity can do to oneself. Just by seeing things in a good light even when times get rough can change things for you automatically. You no longer attract negative vibes and you radiate a happy feeling to the people around you.

I had a friend of mine who was so close to becoming a beauty technician in Spain before I moved back here. She went through so many tests and studied so hard but just couldn’t seem to tackle the theoretical side to things. When it came down to it she knew everything in practice, and really did have this magical awe to her but her exam techniques didn’t quite match it. So what did she do? Yep, you guessed it: she gave up.

When I found out I felt so disheartened and disappointed. With persistence and patience anything is possible, and believing in yourself is absolutely essential. It can be soul-destroying when you consider that to achieve your dream job or goal you 9 times out of 10 need to prove yourself in the theoretical side of things, even if you know in-field you can really perform. It all comes down to that one exam, that one journey of portfolio-created gathering which, in turn, determines your inner-strength and patience that comes from inside of you.

Even coming to university it hasn’t been easy and there has often been times where I felt like giving up, and I have questioned my course and my career ahead of me. It can daunt you. It can scare you. You can easily be thrown of track. One of the biggest things is accepting what is, appreciate the present moment and give it your all right now and know that everything will turn out the way it is supposed to.

I remember when I was taking my driving tests in Spain and I had failed three times. The memory of me standing there leaning into my dads’ arms whilst preaching that I was a failure, and I wasn’t meant to drive.

If I fail one last time I will not take another test.

That was my attitude at the time, but the fact that my parents never stopped believing in me and my friends gave me all of the support I needed kept me going. And what happened? I passed! I passed when I was supposed to pass.

Many of us need that extra bit of time to excel and grow in strength. We can quite often think that we know it all now but can be mistakenly wrong. We might just need to practice that bit more, or associate with different media within the industry or practice in order to be more professional at what we’re doing. Persistence, determination and self-belief. If it is something you truly want do not ever give up. Like Hilary Duff once said in one of her films:

Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

Women In Leadership Workshop

Being a student at the University of Westminster based in North London, you often feel the perks of living near to the city – and you are exposed to many intellectual, eye-opening opportunities, like inspirational speeches and workshops.

Last week I was part of the organisation behind an arranged Women In Leadership workshop, and we had Philippa Linane in, (www.decisionhappy.com) who is a qualified life coach, who gave myself and a multiple of others some useful life skills and tips can be utilised in many areas as a means of feminism.

Being a woman I know how emotional we all can get, which most of us scapegoat our hormones for that. We can be cautious of what others think of us, and feeling sense of unworthiness is prominent when we feel intimidated by someone we perceive as better than us. It is challenging being a woman; especially in the 21st century when things are moving along so quickly!

You need to feel the fear and do it anyway.

When I first head that quote, which is from a book that has inspired the ideas behind Philippa’s teachings, I was very ‘moved’ – very much so in a soulful way. I connected in a strange, relatable way, and felt that I personally could really see myself currently adapting to a similar mind frame.

Quite often I will say to people: “I love challenges!” But that doesn’t mean that I’m not afraid of trying new things. Most of us are afraid of what we can achieve rather than what we can’t, which was another point that was mentioned and really makes a tun of sense now about humanity as a race. Believing in oneself is a rarity to a certain extent, as most of us are not comfortable with change, but we just need to have that will-power to go forward with things, because if we don’t try new avenues how are we ever going to know who we are, what it is we want and what our hidden talent may be.

How would you feel now if you were 80 and you had regrets of all the things you hadn’t done? Do you think you would regret the things you have done? It is unlikely.

That struck a thought in most heads, I can imagine, as most of us by that point could see that procrastination was a common process that most are very guilty of: the process to put something off and ‘do it later’.

As a positive, enthusiastic life-warrior myself, I really loved this inspirational workshop. Doing that for a career and taking charge of your own business – voicing the knowledge that you feel passionately about – must feel amazing on a daily basis. Expression is key in this world, so don’t be afraid to stand up tall and love the skin you’re in!

You can have anything you want in this world, you just need to want it enough. “Gemma Smith”
